Devotion - Productivity and Purpose

2006年12月05日

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart… it
is the Lord Christ you are serving. - Colossians
3:23-24

IN WORD

Surveys indicate that more than half of employees are
dissatisfied with their work situation. Much of that
is human nature: In our eyes, the grass is always
greener somewhere else. But the issue goes deeper than
a general, natural discontentment. We want to know
that our work matters and many people come to the
conclusion that theirs does not.

It is easier to find meaning in some jobs than others
but nearly all have an apparent pointlessness in one
or more areas. Whether our work is as predictable as
an assembly line, as impressive as a political or
economic power trip, or simply as profound as raising
children and managing a family, we often have a deep
seated desire to be more, to do more, to see more
results. Deep down, we want to be important. 阅读全文 »

Money sense for Marina

2006年12月04日

(This is a back-date posting for 9 Nov 2006)

Marina is 5 years old and in her k2 this year.  She had a tuck shop session from 6 Nov - 9 Nov in her school.  So, we given her 80cents each day so that she can “experience” buying and responsible for her own money.

We knew from last year experience, that she will spend her money on useless toys rather than food, so we reminded her not to “waste” her money.  She should feed her own tummy first rather than toys or color pencil or stickers.

She came back on the first day happily telling us that she did not “waste” her money on useless toys or stickers…we were pretty proud and gone through with her spending.  We found out that she spent 40cents on chicken wing and 15cents on drinks.  however, she left with zero cents in her wallets.  So, we asked her to tell us where is her 25cents gone to.  So she told us that one of her classmates asked her for money and she gladly given to her.  We told her that is not the right things to do and told her that she should not give money to others simply.  We suspected that she learnt it from us as she think the weekend donations to charity is similar to her “donation” to friends.  We had to explain to her the differences and hope that she knows the different.

During dinner, I was wondering if I should ask her to ask the money back from the girl or raise this issue to the school teacher.  I felt it’s not the matter of 25cents but it is the principal that we want our girl to understand: 阅读全文 »

A $500,000 life

2006年10月26日

Read this news last week that a young man was so broke that he throw himself off the MRT track and killed himself.  The shocking part was his wife could not affort to take public to see his body in hospital.  As such, after the news was published, many good-hearted people started to send in donation for the victim family.

The donation flown in and within a week, she have gotten over $500,000.  So, she have enough for the funeral and for her son’s studies.  She mentioned that she will donate $100,000 to charity and save the rest of the money.  Again, people begin to questions how could she have such a large sum of money.  Some fund-manager mentioned that she should hand over her money for ‘experienced’ fund-manager.

My girl is getting married

2006年10月21日

Today, Marina seemed pretty happy.

She came and hug me when I came back from work and spoke softly into my ear….”I tell you a secret…Joshua said he will marry me when we grow up.”

I though I only read this on books or seen it on movies, but my 5 years old daughter is telling me that now.  I was amused, but trying to feel how i will feel like, in due time, when she really got married.

i asked if she is happy and she shying said, yes!

I am not sure if I look forward to the day.  But for now, she is my daring daughter!

I love her!

Sad, mixed feeling…

2006年10月19日

Just came back from Pataiya, Thailand with Andrew, John, BB and Anthony.

It’s been almost 20 years since we, boys, went overseas tour together.

The first day was hosted by Andrew’s business partner, Ked and Anthony’s good friend Mr Niti Phume.  We have good meal and went for traditional Thai massage.  It was indeed a solid good one, no hanky-panky type.  When Niti sent us back to hotel, we did not rest immediately.  We headed down to Popome (I hope I got the name correct) and went into a go-go bar.

Huge Problem Bought!

2006年10月12日

In my last post about how we ended out in deep debt, I mentioned about our money stucked in a house…here is what happened:

In Year 2004, Kent came to our  family in January.  We were most delight and celebrated, however, we need to solve one problem…who to look after him when CW done with her maternity.  My mom will definitly be out as she is staying with us and she is already helping us to look after Marina while we were working.  We do not want to hire a maid nor engage a nanny as well as child-care.  Thus, logically we turned to CW’s mom for help.  Then, the next question is, where will she be staying?  She will definitly not staying with us, due to prior conflict between our 2 families (Well, another long story will be account in future), and no way any Singaporean family will rent out a room for her to look after our son.  Thus, we came out a wise idea…why don’t we get a condo?
